How can I be more social?

Here's the thing, for the past 4 years I was involved in heavy gambling. It's all I did, just go on the internet and play online poker and take a few classes at the junior college. A few weeks ago I hit rock bottom, lost everything( 100kish) and finally admitted to myself I have a problem and have since quit. I am 22 years old now and really have no social life because of my severe addiction. I have never had a girlfriend since highschool. This is my first semester in a university and I want to have fun. Not to sound conceited but I am very attractive guy and girls do come to me, but I always scare them away due to my poor communication skills and shyness. How do I correct this? Gambling has really wrecked me and I want to fix myself. Thanks in advance.
Forgot to add, in addition to no girlfriend since highschool I don't have any friends. My entire world was gambling and the world has finally started to open up since I quit.

go out a little more.. since your back in school try going up to people in your class or around campus and just say hi.

you'll find people are more accepting than you'd think. and theres alot of people who like to play poker, since you already know so much about it that can be something you have in common and share your experiences.

everything else comes with practice.

It amounts to up to five percent of what is in every pot, although some online sites have a no flop, no drop rule, meaning they do not take a rake if the hand ends before the flop in a Texas hold'em game. If you'll loose your attention and go beyond the track, then expect that you will fail. As what I have said there are so much poker variants like the stud poker, the draw poker, and the community card poker and could be considered in Texas Holdem Betting Structure as well. So be focused as well as think before dealing. For it is important to be in the win/win situation everytime than to be in a rocking boat, adrenaline rushing situation.

We should always remember that the players should always be turned on in the game itself, he/she should have a sense of interest and understand all the criterias, rules and regulations for him/her to dominate the poker game of course. It is important to be knowledgeable enough for you to be able to know where to start as well as where to cease the game.
