What are big and small blinds? Also, what does "On the button" and 'Under the gun" mean?

Most texas holdem and omaha holdem games have no antes. Instead they have blinds. The blinds are a set amount that the two people to the left of the dealer button have to put in before the cards are dealt.

In a 2/4 limit game, the minimum bet is $2 in the first round. The big blind always has to put in that bet, and the small blind is usually half of this amount ($1 in this case). The money they put in counts as their bet. So if nobody raised in front of them, the small blind would have to put in 1 more dollar to call, and the big blind could check or raise. If it was raised to $4, the $1 or $2 they put in would count towards that $4 bet.

Under the gun is the worst position at the table preflop. This means you are seated immediately to the left of the big blind. After the cards are dealt, you need to act first. You need to decide whether to call, raise, or fold without seeing what anyone else has done. This is a huge disadvantage

"on the button" is the best position at the table. It is called on the button because the "Dealer Button" is in front of you. The person to your immedate left is the big blind and gets the first card. You get to act last in every betting round. This means you can see what everyone else does before you decide what you are doing. Most of the profit you make in poker shuold be when you are on the button
