Fundraiser ideas for a Christian Youth Event?
I have to raise $3000 for a Christian Youth Event that will happen in 3 months. I thought about a Poker Run, but want it to be Christian oriented. Any ideas?
Hey there, zelmagene!
I've been heavily involved with nonprofit fund raising for years....so here are some ideas I have that could be relatively low in cost for your cause...
1) Consider a mail campaign - depending on how many mailing addresses you have, you never know how many people might respond to your cause and just write you a check! This works amazingly well for several organizations that are short on time AND resources.
2) Consider running an online auction - this is an AWESOME way to get to the people whose mailing addresses you don't have (ie you've got their EMAILS)...your email base can feel like they're using their expendable income on great stuff AND its going to their community at the same time!
I've included a link of one of the online auction companies that I've worked with...cMarket. They also have another website, BiddingforGood.com, that opens your auction up to all their members so that people who you don't even know can donate to your cause and bid on your items!
3) Instead of having a garage sale at your home, try having a "garage" sale on eBay! Think of it as a virtual way to get rid of some stuff AND make a little more money...(make sure you include the cost of shipping those items online or else you'll end up losing money!).
4) Have a fundraising event - give people in your community something to look forward to, and host a gala....you can sell tickets, have an auction, raffle prizes, etc that will give your church something to look forward to AND a perfect opportunity to donate to something they care about.
5) One last tid bit - consider selling sponsorships for your event...this can help off set some of your cost INCREDIBLY. You'd be surprised how many local businesses want to be a part of your cause-minded event! You can ask for anywhere around $500 per sponsor, and if you put your auction online, you can ask for even more than that because they'll be getting just that much more exposure through your website and event emails!
Best of luck with all of this!

This Celebrity Poker Tournament featuring top sports celebrities and entertainers was followed by a Celebrity Golf Tournament hosted by Marcus Allen. The poker tournament was held at the Lucky Strike Lanes in Hollywood and the the golf tournament was at the gorgeous North Ranch Country Club nestled in the hills northwest of Los Angeles. Beneficiaries of the event included: the Marcus Allen Scholarship, KIPP LA, PAX, UCSF Children's Hospital and Success Through the Arts Program.
The poker tournament was a charity event raising money for All Stars Helping Kids. Marcus Allen is very involved with All Stars Helping Kids and is also hosting a charity golf tournament with Neuro! Pictures for that event later this week.
The Marcus Allen Charity fundraiser was two days of excitement. The Poker Tournament was Sunday and Monday was the Golf Tournament. The tournament was at the illustrious North Ranch Country Club .
Everyone partook in some intense bowling before the poker. Lucky Strike offers a unique bowling experience with plush couches and neons lights. While you are bowling videos are projected onto the bowling lanes. After the bowling everyone got down to playing some poker. Since it was for charity, it was very friendly poker. Old sports rivalries were put aside and everyone had fun. Keith Zubchevich, Nancy Odell’s husband, won the tournament.
"I believe that you are rich by what you give and poor by what you keep. As the leader of All Stars in Los Angeles, my goal is to develop a program that provides multiple opportunities for individuals and corporations to respond to the needs of the community." Marcus Allen stated.
“When it comes to our kids, we all have a role to play.” And with that being the purpose, all the old heads came out to support the HOFer’s foundation.

Allen is considered as one of the greatest goal line and short-yardage runners in National Football League history. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2003. He is the older brother of Damon Allen, who plays in the Canadian Football League.
In his rookie season in 1982, he rushed for 697 yards as he led the Raiders to the best record in the AFC with a strike-shortened 8-1 record and was elected as NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Allen is best remembered for his heroics in Super Bowl XVIII. He ran for 191 yards, caught 2 passes for 18 yards, and scored 2 touchdowns in the Raiders 38-9 victory over the Washington Redskins.
