Poker Probability Program

poker probability question?
hey guys,
this is a question for those of you who know how 2 play texas hold em' poker and are good at maths. for my computing project project i need to calculate the probability of poker hands in my program. i was wondering if the probability of getting a straight flush (5 cards in order of the same suit) would be the same as probability of getting a straight (5 cards in a row) times the probability of getting a flush (5 cards same suit). cheers guys
The odds for straight are 0.39 %
The odds for flush are 0.2 %
The odds for straight flush are 0.00154 %
So it's not the same as multiplying !!!
Reason : if you have a flush, you have more chance
that the cards are in straight order, because they
differ (same suit, so different rank) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Details :
Straight : two conditions, different rank, and in straight order
odds for 5 different rank :
1 x (48/51) x (44/50) x (40/49) x (36/48) = 0.50708
We have (13!/8!5!) = 1287 possibilities for this and there
are only 10 good (the ten possible series of straights :
1,2,3,4,5 ; 2,3,4,5,6 ; ... 10,J,Q,K,A)
so we multiply by 10/1287 = 0.0039
The odds for flush are :
1 x (12/51) x (11/50) x (10/49) x (9/48)
The odds for straight flush :
C(52,5) = 52!/47!5! possible hands and only
40 of them are good (4 suits, 10 straight orders)
=> 40*47!5!/52! = 0.0000154 !
