What are Americans doing to recover their right to play poker online?

I live in the uk and have made a lot of friends around the world playing poker online and I'm starting to miss my American friends. I don't claim to know much about the American legal system but it would seem that with all the outrage I've seen expressed online about that stupid law more would be done to try to get things changed. It seems to me that every American poker player should be appart of the Poker Players Alliance especially since sites like Full Tilt are offering incentives like a $2500 free roll just for joining. So I ask again what are American poker players doing to recover their rights and is their anything a girl from accross the pond can do? If you are ready to step up here is a link to Full Tilt one of the few places I can still play poker online with my American Friends http://www.fulltiltpoker.com/?key=MDAwMDFERUIwMDAwNDJCRDIwQjI0MDkxMDAwMDAwMDA-

I can't speak for other Americans but here is what I'm doing and recommend other do. First, stay informed. It's important to know who your friends and enemies are with this issue. Websites like http://www.ModernGrinder.com and http://www.pokerplayersalliance.org are good sources. Second, be politically active. Call and write your representatives and senators. Let them know you vote and how you feel about the issues. Join the Poker Player's Alliance, donate whatever you can afford both in time and money as they are working to get a "skill exemption" for poker written into the law (The free roll you mentioned in your question is great deal btw). Third, support the poker sites that support American players. Eventually things will change and sites like Party Poker will be open to US residents again but why should we support them when they abandoned us so quickly. The Modern Grinder's featured sites are all poker rooms that have committed to taking a stand and welcome American poker player's with open arms. I've listed some links below for your convenience.

Bullets Poker Club The Fight to Keep online Poker Legal

Poker Is Not a Crime.

The Poker Players Alliance is leading the rally to keep online poker legal and fight the hypocritical and prohibitionist anti-gaming legislation from Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and others. Below are details on how you can participate.

First of all, please take the time to join the over 100,000 members of the Poker Players Alliance, if you haven't already. The PPA is the strongest voice for you in politics and is focused on representing your interests on Capitol Hill and elsewhere. Some of the major players joining the battle are Pocket Fives, Wicked Chops Poker, The Rounders Room, Doyles Room, Party Poker, Full Tilt and many others.

And why not? Pro-gaming lobbyists are highlighting a new study that shows legalizing online gambling could create tens of thousands of new jobs over five years.

H2 Gambling Capital, a Manchester, U.K.- based market analysis firm for the gambling industry, released a new report on Monday that says legalized online gambling would spark 32,000 new jobs and $57.5 billion in new tax revenue over five years. It could also lead to $94 billion in new economic activity, the firm estimates.

This study should provide further incentive for the Obama administration and Congress to act quickly to regulate Internet gambling. By keeping online gambling illegal, U.S. lawmakers are losing billions for their economy and leaving tens of thousands of U.S. players without any onshore regulatory protection.

Online gambling in the United States was first banned in 2006. Republicans attached a rider to a ports security authorization bill to institute the ban.

Conservative Christian groups as well as professional sports leagues lobbied hard for the measure and have since opposed any attempt to legalize the industry.

The threat to poker is real. Please forward this information to everyone you know who cares about poker and an American's freedom to use the Internet. We need everyone possible to make their voice heard!
