How can I learn to play Poker (Hold em)?
I would love to learn how to play this popular game.
What troubles me most is that I don't know what card to look for in Flops or River or which hands are the strongest.
I would like to know how to find out which cards you need in the community. Are there any guides to this? Thanks!
I play PartyPoker a lot, I just don't know how strong certain hands are and what cards I should look for in the community (flop, river, etc.).
I don't know when I should fold or when I should raise (with exception to pairs).
Just getting to a table and playing is the best thing you can do, i know when i firts started out i lost a lot of money playing in ring games because i did not understand the game as well as i do now. For begining players i would suggest a tight stratagey, only play hands in position for the most part. In position means the button is the best position in the game and hands that you would fold off of the button you would maybye even raise with on the button. But poker is all situations and hands have no absoulute value, for example if i have jacks and i make a raise and someone else re-raises me and i get another re-raise from someone else then i fold the hand for the most part. Also a small pair like 3-3 should be played for a call with a lot of other players, you have to get proper odds to play hands out of positon, for example if i have 2-2 and the blinds are 100-200 and three others just call in front of me that means there is 900 in the pot so it cost you 200 to win 900 so you are getting 4-1 odds to call, so it is good to do so. Deciding weather or not to play a hand pre-flop is the most important, and you should be trying to win the pot before the flop because post flop experianced players can steal pots from you because you will miss the flop more often then you hit it, raising 4 time the blind is a good amount to bet when first starting out. Also if you are first to enter a pot you should always come in for a raise because if the hand is not worth a raise when you are first to open then it is not worth it to play it.
