Good poker games for a group of 5 or 6?

Getting together with some friends tomorrow night, and I'm kind of tired of their same old games that usually require no skill and a ton of wild cards. Would love to spice it up a bit, but I pretty much only play hold 'em. What are some good games that are easy to explain (we will be intoxicated) and don't rely on half the deck being wild? Perhaps a useful link to a site explaining rules?

How about Omaha.

Basically exactly the same as Hold'em. But you get four hole cards instead of two. You MUST PLAY TWO CARDS from your four, along with three from the board. So if you get dealt four kings you DO NOT HAVE QUADS you just have a pair of kings together with whatever else is on the board. If there are four spades on the board and you hold one spade, you do not have a flush, because you have to play two of your hole cards.

Other than that basic rule, if you can understand Hold'em you can learn this one in a few minutes. Just remember ALWAYS TWO of the FOUR hole cards, NO EXCEPTIONS!

Understanding Different Types Of Poker Games

Though Texas Hold'em gets more attention, Omaha or Omaha Hi/Low is much better when it comes to action. Omaha is played almost in the same manner as Texas Hold'em, the difference being that the player receives 4 hole cards instead of 2. The additional 2 cards almost assure that the best hand available is out there somewhere. Another interesting thing about these poker games is the availability of Hi/Low versions. This spurs the betting on as the hitting hand bets wildly to eliminate the chasers.
The different games have to be played keeping different strategies in mind if you want to scoop the pot. Scooping the pot entails winning both the Hi and Low versions of the game. Due to all the variables and the 4 hole cards there is always a huge amount of money in the pot.

Though there is a vast array of poker games to decide from, 7 card stud is an all time favorite. It comes with both Hi and Low versions. You get 2 cards dealt face down and then one card dealt face up. Each player receives one more card face up after the first round of betting. This process goes on until each player has 2 down cards and 4 up cards. At this point, everyone will receive their last card down and the final betting round takes place.

Holdem Stud Poker is different from other poker games like Omaha as it is not a chaser's game. If your hand does not develop within the first round of betting and solidify on the second up card, you need to get out of the hand. If you do not do that, you will lose. This game also requires memory and concentration as you need to remember all the cards that have been dealt. You sure don't want to be looking for a 10 when all of them have already been folded on board. Keep a mental note of the cards on the board.

Razz is another different poker game just for people with bad luck. Here you are aiming for the worst possible cards. In a real game, A-2-3-4-6-7-8 would have you breaking things, in Razz you are scooping up the pot. It is dealt and bet the same exact way as 7 stud, you just the lowest ranked hand on the board to win. Similar to the usual stud, only 5 cards play.

Triple Draw is one more poker game which is becoming popular. It is one of the most thrilling and fun filled poker games. You can make money with it if you practice discipline. People normally play this game at lower levels just for enjoyment. Triple Draw is a version similar to Razz and has a 5 card draw. The players are given 5 cards and a round of betting takes place. By discarding as many cards as you like, you should try to get the worst possible hand. 2-3-4-5-7 is great for standard Triple Draw. Another betting and discard round occurs after the first draw. The third and last draw is followed by one more betting round and then the showdown takes place. Do not forget, no pairs, flushes or straights are required. You only need trash for victory.
