I want to set up a poker room where a bunch of my forum buddies can jump right in and play?

How can I do this while avoiding signing up for sites like pokerstars and fulltilt, Is there a way I can just set one up for everyone to join by clicking a link and typing a nickname?

The simple answer is you cant. Unless you have tens of thousands of dollars to create your own poker room.

You're better off using an existing platform like Full Tilt or Poker Stars. My poker forums (see link below) can arrange private leagues on these and simlar sites to be set up for groups of players and/or also runs freeroll events regularly if you're looking to play poker without having to risk investment.

Another thing I might add is that you can use rooms like full tilt and stars without having to actually deposit money (if that's the reason you're looking to avoid the sites). So you could all sign up for the one room, then try to all get on the same play money table. There's no obligation to deposit, you can use their software without ever depositing if you want, you just won't be able to buy into real money tournaments, etc..
