There are several things that you will need to check for in Texas holdem reading the board. One of the first things you should look out for is whether or not the board has pairs. Pairs on the board give you and the other players an opportunity to have quads (four of a kind), two pairs, a pair, a full house, or a trio (three of a kind).

You should also check if the board has three cards of the same suit. This gives you and your opponents the possibility of having a flush or a royal flush. When this happens, take note of the card that has the highest rank - is it in your hands or is it on the board?

You should also be wary of cards on the board that come in sequence. It is quite possible that you or your opponents are holding the two missing cards. Even if there are cards that do not really come in sequence but only needs two cards to complete a 5-card sequence, take note of it. Someone might be holding a straight or even a straight-flush.

Texas holdem reading the board is just one of the many basics things that you will need to learn. It can be to your advantage to learn how to be quick and careful in reading the board cards so you can buy yourself the amount of time you need to make others fall in the trap of your act.
