Poker help? What happens when someone does have enough to post blinds?

So in our buy in winner takes all poker game, a player was left with $15 worth of chips. The problem was that he was the big blind of $100. What happens in that case? He was saying that he could play the $15 and pull $15 worth of chips from each of the remaining players that remained, and if he won, that would be his "side pot". All in all that seems like a good idea for a friendly game of poker, but what happens in tournament poker? If I had to guess I'd say that he was out for not being able to post the blinds.

In my mind, I don't see that as being fair to the other players who has to post more money in the pot to match the big blind.

Does anyone know the official ruling on this? I'm really curious!

When a player does not have enough chips to post the blind whether it is a tournament our cash game, a side pot is created. In your case, he would win $15 from each person that stays in the hand and this would be the main pot. The other players would still need to bet a minimum of the big blind to stay in with any extra money going into a side pot that would be between the remaining players. The players that is "All In" would leave his cards face down until the river or until he is heads up with only one other person at which point they can both turn over their cards and the remaining cards will be dealt. This is how it is done in live casino tournaments and cash games and friendly home games. Below are some links to a site that has lots of info and help for home poker games and a link to the official TDA Rules. Good Luck at the tables.
