Surviving a poker tournament?
This is the first time I'm going to a Caribbean Stud Poker tournament.
Each player will be given $5000 non-negotiable chips in the preliminary stage, which (from what I heard) has 16 or 15 rounds. I calculated that I have about $300 per round ($100 ante, $200 bet) - but almost everyone will be doing the same thing. Is there a better way?
Because obviously, if I don't win enough, I won't qualify for the quarter finals. When do I increase my bet to catch up? What can I do if I'm doing poorly for a few rounds?

I don't think it's lame. I love Caribbean Stud Poker. 
Play around with the betting strategy - you don't have to stick to $100 antes the whole time. You could try start betting more - see if you can build your stack, and back off if you need to. You could also do it the other way - start betting low hoping the dealer will make some hands and your opponents take a beating. It's all up to you. Look at how you're doing, how your opponents are doing, and go from there.

That is not to say that you shouldn't, but how about this for a better idea: I propose you demand payment up front previous to the party of a set sum of money! So if everybody pays $50 for a ticket then they get say 5000 chips at the start of the evening. Nobody has less, no one has more so there can be no complaining, no embarrassments and no one loses extra cash than anybody else.
You can pool all this cash together for a first, second and third prize etc.
3. You will be delighted to read that you could hire out everything you require for a casino party. This includes all game paraphernalia and even staff in order to run the games.
4. The usual games i'd go for would be poker, blackjack, 21 and craps. All are tremendously easy to be taught, amusing and inclusive!
5. Send out your invitations on the backs of playing cards. Otherwise you can cut out some heart, diamond, spade and club shapes out of card.
6. All casino parties ought to have a karaoke addition. Sorry if this is not to your taste but there may be people attending that are not as fanatical on the betting side.
