In one version of poker 7 cards are dealt to the player (order not important)?

How many different poker hands have three different pairs ( 2 cards of the same rank) and one card of a fourth different rank?

Thanks

there are C(13,3) = 286 ways to pick the ranks of the pairs
there are C(4,2) = 6 ways to pick the suits of each pair
there are 40 cards left for the odd card
286 * 6^3 * 40 = 2471040

Montana Poker - Card Checking and Evaluating

Poker is a family of card games that share betting rules and usually hand rankings. Poker has many variations, all following a similar pattern of play and generally using the same hand ranking hierarchy. In most modern poker games, the first round of betting begins with some form of forced bet. Card checking and evaluating is done upon the end of the game in order to see which player has the highest or lowest hand.

In poker, the object of the game is to get the highest ranked hand over your opponents' hands.

Here is the rank of hands from highest to lowest with no wild cards: royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, two pair, pair, and single high card.

The royal flush is the highest hand possible, and it occurs when you have five high cards of the same suit in sequence with Ace as the highest card. The straight flush occurs when you simply have five cards of the same suit in sequence, such as J-10-9-8-7. The four of a kind is when, as the name suggests, you have four of a certain kind of card plus a single card. The full house is when you have three of a kind with a pair. The flush occurs when you have any five cards of the same suit. The straight occurs when you have any five cards in sequence and unsuited. The three of a kind is when you have three of a certain kind of card plus two single cards. The two pair is when you have two pairs of cards plus a single card. The pair is when you have a pair of cards plus three single cards. The single high card occurs when you have five cards of differing suits, with the Queen as the highest card.

Again, card checking and evaluating plays a role in determining the winner of the poker game.
