Planning a fundraiser - Can you help?
I want to organise a fundraiser for a child who has cancer. I live in the UK but the baby lives in America.
Just a few questions:
1. Do I need to register this as a charity?
2. How do I approach sponsors for the fundraising event? Letter, email, in person?
3. Should I prepare a presentation to encourage sponsors to donate?
4. What are some good ideas for fundraising? (Bingo, poker, etc...)
5 How can I attract a high profile guest/entertainer?
Anything else you may think I need to know?
Thank you in advance!
It says there are two answers but I only see one. ?!?
1. No you do not.
2. Letter, email, in person? You should approach them in person, but also have a letter typed out, it looks better and shows them you are going to organize this event well and make it successful.
3. Yes. You have to show them why you are doing this. Pictures always help to raise awareness.
4. From experience, do maybe 2 or 3 different events. Each event attracts different people. Casino night with a theme of "James Bond" would be suitable for adults..and you could organize a fun day for children. Bouncy castles, balloon making, face painting, races etc.
5 You need to write a letter to them. They will also be more interested if they themselves have been affected by cancer, or they have a sister how was etc. They will be more likely to except.
Organize a committee of your friends who would like to help and assign them a different task. All the help will help you.

Satellite Internet Keeps The Gambler In The Action
Las Vegas is by far one of the most fascinating cities in the United States. With the bright lights, luxurious hotels and amazing casinos, people from all over the world flock to sin city in order to have some fun and spend some money. Granted, Atlantic City and a few other places throughout the nation offer gambling options, but Vegas simply outshines them all.
But even though people go to Vegas to fulfill those occasional gambling cravings, many simply cannot manage the overall trek. Perhaps they cannot take the time off work or perhaps the family does not want to vacation in the desert, whatever the reason is people unfortunately give up on trying to spend three days in Vegas, playing the slots and the blackjack tables and simply having some fun.
Fortunately, with the plethora of online gaming and gambling sites on the Internet these days, more and more people have started to skip out on the lights and sounds of Vegas for the quiet sanctity of their home living rooms. And although computer gambling is in no ways the same as gambling in the city that never sleeps, Wi-Fi and satellite Internet users are still managing to have a little fun while at home.
Poker is obviously one of the biggest crazes in the last 10 years with regards to gambling. What was once seen only as a fun thing to do on a Friday night with friends, Poker has evolved into a national sport – so to speak – that gets plenty of coverage on ESPN. As a result, online poker sites such as PokerStars.net have grown immensely, allowing millions of fans to play the game either for money or for fun. People from all over the world simply log on with a cable or satellite broadband connection and bring 5, 10 or even 20 dollars to a tournament table or a cash game. Many fanatics have actually made a lot of money through the site, turning their hobby into an actual professional career. In fact, many friends and family members who live cross country or abroad link up with each other on the site to have a friendly – or not-so-friendly – game of cards.
Bodog.co.uk is another gambling Web site, but unlike PokerStars.net it offers all WiMax and satellite Internet users the opportunity to participate in any type of gaming experience imaginable. Granted, poker is readily available, but so are a whole slew of casino games, such as blackjack and roulette. Additionally, the site is know for its exceptional sports betting, which although does not rival the one at the New York New York hotel and casino in Vegas still manages to attract millions of users. From basketball to football to sports never even heard of, people all over the world can bet on the odds and test their luck for any major sporting event. An individual living in the Rocky Mountains can utilize the site through their satellite Internet broadband connection to bet on a cricket game in India while a person in South Africa can bet money on the NCAA March Madness tournament. It is simply amazing.
Now, many people do not like online gambling, considering it to be worse than gambling at an actual casino since people easily push buttons to place bets. At the same time, it is true that betting money over the Internet can be highly addictive and dangerous to some. But, provided that it is done responsibly, gambling over the Wi-Fi and satellite Internet sphere is something that provides a little thrill to people who may not be able to go to Las Vegas. So, even though there are naysayers, online gambling is here and it is here to stay. Therefore, let the public enjoy it.
