Poker Strategy for Tournament Tonight?
I have been playing Texas Holdem for a very long time and I know the basics very well. Im in a $50 buy in tournament tonight and I was wondering what a good strategy might be. I think the max ammount of players is 30.
The strategy will be determined by the number of starting chips, size of the blinds, and the speed the blinds increase. There are a lot of other factors too, but in the absence of any other information I'd start with that.
But as a general rule hang back for the first couple of blind levels only playing premium hands. Once you've established a tight image get more aggressive and bluff and steal a little more, in the later blind levels.

One of the most misunderstood strategies that poker players use in many tournaments is the check-raise. It can truly be to your advantage if you can effectively check-raise your opponents in a Texas holdem tournament but this often sounds a lot easier than being actually done.
It is important that you are able to effectively set up a check-raise for this tournament strategy to be successful. The success of a check-raise is often determined before the flop and this is where the strength of your hole cards, your image on the table, your attitude on the table, and your position on the table come in. It is best that you consider all these four factors if you are planning to launch a check-raise attack.

Just remember that your objective in checking and raising is to make your opponents think that you are having doubts about the strength of your hand, making them put in most of their chips to the pot. In this way, you will get them by surprise when you get back at them with a raise instead of folding.
However, you should also take caution and keep yourself from becoming too aggressive when betting in a Texas holdem tournament - and in any Texas holdem poker game you are playing. A check-raise is not meant for too much aggressiveness, so do not come in too hard-hitting to your opponents.
