Can a straight flush contain royal cards in a hand of poker (plus other Texas hold em poker questions)?
I'm creating a simple-like poker game in Flash and need to get a few rules straight. Can a straight flush contain royal cards in a hand of poker? e.g. 7,8,9,10,J of spades compared to 3,4,5,6,7 of spades?
Also if two players have a Flush; 2,4,7,J,K of spades and 4,6,8,Q,K of diamonds, which one has the higher hand? I know that the second one listed probably wins, but am not sure how exactly it works. I read that gain is determined by sequence. To me it seems like the one with the higher "total" value of cards would win. Any thoughts on this?
Let's say that no one had a useful hand and the high card wins the round. If 2 players had an ace, would they split the pot? Would the players then resort to a secondary high card in their hand instead?
I know that there is a lot of variations of poker. I'm more interested in the rules used in the Texas hold em world series as televised.

the first question yes a straight flush could be K Q J 10 9 of spades but its not a royal cause no A,

the second question would be a split they both have K high,
in the case of the high card it depends on the kicker if the flop was 4 5 2 Q 7 and one guy had A 6 and the othe guy had A 8 the the A 8 would win because the kicker is higher than the 7. Basically in Texas Holdem, you want to make the best hand possible using 5 cards in the example above an 8 is higher than a 6
Texas Hold 'em Poker Rules
The player to the left of the dealer posts the small blind. In Texas Hold 'Em poker the small blind is half of the minimum table stake. Then the player to the left of the player who has posted the small blind posts the big blind. As per the Texas Hold 'Em poker rules the big blind is the minimum table stake. The intention of posting the blinds is to make sure that the pot is not empty. Since the dealer keeps rotating the players who post the blinds also keep rotating so that the burden of posting the blinds is evenly spread out.
The dealer then deals two cards face down to each player. In poker parlance these cards are called hole cards. According to Texas Hold 'Em poker rules the players can engage in maximum three rounds of betting at the minimum table stakes. If the players think that their two cards offer a reasonable chance to make a winning hand they participate in the betting otherwise they fold. The dealer then opens the flop. The flop is a set of three community cards. In poker parlance community cards are cards all players can use to make their final hands.
The players reassess their chances and engage in another round of betting. In Texas Hold 'Em poker the round of betting after the flop is opened is known as third street. The dealer then opens the fourth community card. This is called the turn. After the turn is opened the betting shifts to the maximum of the table stakes. This round of betting is called fourth street. Finally the fifth and last community card, known as river, is opened by the dealer. Now the players know what their final hand is. A last round of betting takes place and if more than one person is left in the fray then there is a showdown. The highest ranking poker hand participating in the show down wins the pot. The pot consists of all the wagers placed during the course of the deal. In casino poker the casino takes a cut of up to 5% from the pot in order to meet its costs and contribute towards its profit.
